Rishikesh-Karanprayag Rail Line Project (Pkg 8), India
Realizing wider tunnels and winning challenging slopes

«Facilitating easy access to pilgrimage centres situated in the state of Uttarakhand, connecting new trade centres, development of backward areas and to serve the population living in the area.»
The tunnels with excavation areas varying from 25m2 to 340m2 pass through a variety of geology of phyllite, quartzitic formations with 700m in river borne material in low overburden; set in seismic zones IV and V. The stretch passes through landslide prone formations.
Triple and double track tunnels of span as big as 22m were realized in soil like formations, sometimes in low overburden.
The portal at the Gaucher station is in alluvium deposits and the tunnel breaks right under a village with overburden less than 5m. The slope is refilled with reinforced earth for permanent stability.
A portal at Gholtir is excavated in an active landslide, stabilized with injected bolts, micropile wall with active anchors, controlled drainage and extensive instrumentation and monitoring. The consultant has designed all the aspects related to the tunnel Alignment, Station layout plans, Bridge design, Electrical, Mechanical, Safety, Ventilation, Signaling & Telecommunication and Overhead Electrification etc. of the project. The JV provides thorough design support and PMC services for the entire construction period.
