Project management for tunnel construction from the Villarodin-Bourget/Modane access tunnel

Operational construction site CO5

Lombardi, as a member of the economic interest group ALLTI, is actively participating in the project management of the operational construction site CO5 for the Lyon-Turin project. This site extends from the Villarodin-Bourget/Modane access tunnel to the French-Italian border.

This segment includes the construction of the two tubes of current section, the Modane safety site, two bypasses linked to multiple others, and several large logistical and technical caverns.

The excavation of this longest section will occur beneath a rock overburden of approximately 2000 meters. The tunnel will be excavated using two 10.43 m diameter gripper tunnel boring machines, followed by nearly 800 m long production halls (Würms), which will subsequently be extended rearward for lining-related tasks.

Operational construction sites CO10 and CO11

In the course of constructing the base tunnel, nearly 40 million tons of material will be excavated by these construction sites. These sites will require 20 million tons of aggregates to produce the 4.75 million cubic meters of concrete for the tunnel and the 3.6 million cubic meters of backfill.

Given the scale of these quantities and the different regulations in the two countries, TELT decided to centralize the material management by country, resulting in two separate contracts: one for excavated material in France and another for Italy.

Lombardi has been appointed the project management of these operations on both the French (contract CO11 within GEIE ALLTI) and the Italian side (contract CO10).
