Brenner Base Tunnel – Lot H52 “Hochstegen” Wins ITA Tunnelling Award

Recognized for excellence in tunnelling and engineering

Lot H52 "Hochstegen" of the Brenner Base Tunnel has won the Project of the Year award (€50M to €500M category) at the ITA Tunnelling and Underground Space Awards, recognizing its innovative solutions and outstanding collaboration.

We are proud to announce that Lot H52 "Hochstegen" of the Brenner Base Tunnel has been awarded the Project of the Year (€50M to €500M category) at the 10th ITA Tunnelling and Underground Space Awards, held on 28 November in Genoa.

Since 2015, the ITA Awards have celebrated the most remarkable achievements in the tunnelling and underground industry, recognizing ambitious projects and cutting-edge innovations. This year, Lot H52 was honored for its outstanding engineering solutions and exceptional collaboration within the project team.

Lot H52 involved the construction of 5 km of tunnels, including exploratory and main tunnel sections, in complex water-bearing geological conditions. Advanced drilling and grouting techniques were employed to ensure stability and safety. Completed in December 2023, this section plays a critical role in the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor, connecting Innsbruck, Austria to Fortezza, Italy.

As part of the project consortium PG BBTN, we proudly led the tender design and documents and the execution design, contributing our expertise to ensure the successful execution of this challenging infrastructure project.

We are honored to have been part of this award-winning effort and extend our thanks to the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association for recognizing the hard work, innovation, and dedication of the entire project team.
