Cumbidanovu Dam

The Cumbidanovu Dam, located in Orgosolo, Oliena, Nuoro, Dorgali, Orune and Lula in Sardinia, represents a tangible commitment to a sustainable agricultural future in this beautiful Italian region.

The dam is of the massive concrete gravity type, with a 330-meter curvilinear axis, divided into 19 segments, each with a width of 14 meters. The height of the dam reaches 67.17 meters, while the crowning development is 263.50 meters. This work will have a reservoir capacity of about 12.1 million cubic meters and a concrete volume of about 290,000 cubic meters.

The dam is equipped with a surface spillway with a maximum flow rate of 1,237 cubic meters/s, divided into two sectors, with a total net spillway length of 90 meters. In addition, there are bottom and depletion spillways, housed in metal pipes embedded in the structure, with maximum flow rates of 185 cu m/s and 34 cu m/s, respectively.

Construction of the Cumbidanovu Dam began several years ago. However, a devastating flood in November 2013 caused extensive damage to the areas dedicated to the facilities and halted the work. At the time of the flood event, all the excavation and reprofiling of the reservoir banks, as well as the casting of the dam segments totaling 43,000 cubic meters of concrete, corresponding to about 15 percent of the total volume of the work, had been carried out.

Lombardi Ingegneria has been contracted to complete this project. Our mission is to complete the dam and related ancillary works.

During the course of the project, final design work for integrated contract, safety coordination during the design phase, and on-site assistance to the injection test field on the existing dam segments, as well as large-scale shear tests on large concrete blocks, have been carried out.
