Reinforcement of dikes on the banks of the Isère river in Arbin, Savoie

Project management and design services for SISARC

«SISARC (Syndicat Mixte de l’Isère et de l’Arc en Combe de Savoie) has been engaged for several years in an extensive program of improvement and structural reinforcement of the dikes on the banks of the Isère and Arc rivers.»
Severe erosion detected

Following the evidence of severe erosion on the lower part of the rockfill dam, SISARC (Syndicat Mixte de l’Isère et de l’Arc en Combe de Savoie) decided to reinforce the right bank dike of the Isère in the municipality of Arbin over a length of 1025 meters and to restore the riverbed.

The operation involves the installation of loose ripraps with anti-scour toe protection, continuing from the existing riprap. It also includes underpinning of crossing structures (culverted tributaries) and the installation of concrete ripraps connected to the dike.

These works are coordinated with an objective of renaturing the riverbed, by reshaping the silting to restore the Isère’s natural morpho-dynamic profile.

The effective management of protected species (beaver, Typha Minima), invasive exotic species (Japanese knotweed) and the control of suspended matter diffusion was a major challenge of the project.
